FABRICE CHAPUIS

Fabrice is a professional photographer, painter and passionate diver from Neuchatel, Switzerland. Through his need for creativity, he has found his way into abstract painting and photography. Self-taught, he feels a continuous need to explore new disciplines that allow him to evolve and motivate him to discover new horizons. Fabrice has vast experience in underwater photography and oversees the FESTISUB 2020 photo contest.

YANNICK GOUGUENHEIM

Yannick is professional under water photographer and cameraman, lecturer, exhibitor and trainer. He specializes in freshwater photography. He is also the Hugyfot ambassador for France, specialists in waterproof camera housings. His motivation is to succeed in transmitting the pleasure that nature provides, to compose a more personal picture with it. Winner of the 2018 Jury’s Choice Prize and 2019 honorary guest photographer of the Festival International de l’Image Subaquatique de Neuchâtel (FESTISUB).

ALFRED MINAAR

Alfie is a professional photographer based in the Bali region of Indonesia. When he’s not shooting underwater in Bali, he seeks to tell a story about adventure and exploration elsewhere. His most recent trips being the mountains of Pakistan and ice diving in Lake Baikal Russia.  Alfie’s works have been featured in numerous magazines and he is a regular contributor to the Dive Magazine UK.

Exclusively dedicated to diving in Switzerland.

With 175 lakes and more than 65,000 km of rivers, Switzerland has a particularly high concentration of divers in proportion to the number of inhabitants. Every year, it also welcomes numerous enthusiasts from around the world to enjoy the pleasures of lake and river diving in an unparalleled setting among mountain peaks and medieval cities.

Through the H2O Photo Contest, DELMA’s aim is to highlight the exceptional natural wonders beneath the surface as well as the unique characteristics of the landscapes that surround Switzerland’s world-renowned bodies of water. First place winners in two categories receive DELMA’s newest dive watch – the Shell Star Bronze. Based upon the brand’s first professional divers’ watch, it pays tribute to the history of diving and the importance of the sport in Switzerland.

Rules & Regulations

The Delma H2O Photo Contest, to be referred to as “The Contest” is organized by DELMA Watch, Ltd.

A. The Contest is open to anyone, with the exception of Delma employees, Delma ambassadors and jury members.
B. Communication language: English.
Acceptable application languages: English, French, German, and Italian.
C. Submission deadline: 31 January 2020 – EXTENDED until 31 March 2020
D. Participation is free of charge.

A. The theme of The Contest is the “Elements of Swiss Diving”.
B. Element is defined as follows:

Element [ˈɛlɪm(ə)nt]
noun, plural noun: elements
1. an essential or characteristic part of something.
2. the four elements of nature: earth, air, water, fire
3. each of more than one hundred substances that cannot be chemically interconverted or broken down into simpler substances and are primary constituents of matter. Each element is distinguished by its atomic number on the Periodic Table of the Elements and can be combined in chemical formulas for example H2O.

A. Participants may submit up to 3 pictures as digital files (.jpg, .pdf) in keeping with the theme.
B. Required naming convention for photos is as follows:
Last Name_First Name_Photo No.jpg
Example: Kocher_Martin_1.jpg
A. All pictures must be sent by Wetransfer or Dropbox through the online submission form or to photocontest@delma.ch. Submissions sent as attachments via Email will not be accepted or considered.
B. All participants must submit their application in one of the following ways:

a) Online at delma.ch/h2ophotocontest
b) Download and complete a submission form at delma.ch/h2ophotocontest and deliver it as a pdf or jpg via email, Dropbox or Wetransfer named according to this example: Kocher_Martin_h2o.jpg

C. Each photo shall be accompanied by a brief description (50 words or less) describing how it embodies the theme.

A. Submitted images must be recorded in Switzerland. The location of the photograph must be indicated on the submission form.
B. Submitted images must include water. Aquarium shots are not allowed.
C. Each photo will be judged separately according to adherence/appropriateness to the theme, originality, and composition.
D. The pictures must meet the following specifications:

a.) Jpg with a minimum resolution of 300dpi.
b.) 2:3 proportions for example: 4000 x 6000 px
c.) Color profile must be imbedded. AdobeRGB, sRGB are recommended. No CMYK.
d.) Minimal retouching is permitted however the content of a picture must not be altered by adding, rearranging, reversing, distorting or removing people and/or objects from within the frame.
e.) Changes in density, contrast, color and/or saturation levels that significantly alter content by obscuring or eliminating information in the picture are not permitted.

D. The jury reserves the right to request the unprocessed original file.
E. Frame, first or last name, logo or any other information must not appear on the image.
F. Delma may refuse any picture that has been produced under unsustainable environmental conditions.
G. On the basis of its judgment and in case of doubt, the jury reserves the right to reject any photo; this precludes any right of appeal whatsoever.
H. Failure to comply to any of the above Guidelines & Specifications will lead to automatic disqualification from The Contest.

A. The jury shall be designated at a further time.
B. In exceptional cases, a jury member may be replaced at the last minute by a person deemed equally competent.
C. The jury’s decisions are final.

A. Prizes will be awarded in two segments as follows:

a.) 3 winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd place) will be selected by the jury.
b.) 1 additional winner will be determined by a public vote on delma.ch/h2ophotocontest.

B. The winners will be announced on 30 April 2020 on the Delma website and social media channels.
C. Winners will also be informed by email.
D. Prizes for each category are:

a.) Juried prizes
1st: Delma Shell Star Bronze
2nd: Delma Shell Star Quartz
3rd: CHF 100.-
b.) Public prize
1st: Delma Shell Star Bronze

E. Beyond the above winners, there is no classification.

A. The top ranked photos in each category may feature in one or several exhibits organized by Delma. By submitting photos, participants agree to be represented in the exhibits.
B. The location and the format of the exhibits will be announced at a later date.
C. The photographers of the showcased photos will be invited but are not obligated to attend.
D. To complete the exhibition, Delma reserves the right to select and include pictures from any participating photographer.

A. The photographer(s), or representative entering on their behalf, must be the copyright holder(s) or have been authorized by the copyright holder(s) to submit the pictures.
B. Participants authorize Delma to use any photograph for promotional activities of The Contest or corresponding exhibits without entitlement to royalties or compensation whatsoever.
C. The participants authorize the reproduction of their works for Delma’s marketing, promotions, website and archives without limitation.
D. The photographers name will always be represented when a work is shared or reproduced.
E. The organizers will not be held liable, in any way, in cases of contention or litigation.
F. In the event of interest in buying a work, the contact information of the photographer will be provided. Delma does not intend to act as an agent or be financially involved in any transactions related to the sale of original works. In the event of ownership transfer, Delma retains the rights to reproduce the images as stated in this document.

A. The organizers reserve the right to cancel The Contest without notice.
B. In case of any language discrepancy, the English version is final.
